Wayne and Judi FahsholtzWayne has had a life-long passion for cattle ranching. He was born in Clovis, NM, moving to Oregon after graduating from High School. His family owned a ranch in New Mexico and one in Oregon. He graduated from Oregon State University and soon began a career that has eventually led him to the Padlock Ranch in Ranchester, Wyoming. Following college Wayne was a loan officer with a bank and had Southern Oregon as a territory. Following this, Wayne was an analyst for CattleFax before joining the family ranch near Klamath Falls. Judi was born and raised on her family’s ranch in Southern Oregon and graduated from Oregon State with a degree in Agriculture Economics. They owned a cow-calf and haying operation near Judi’s family ranch and worked together with her family for 18 years.

They sold their ranch in 1986 and began managing large ranches in January of 1987 with a move to Nevada. Wayne served as President of Maggie Creek Ranch near Elko, Nevada until 1999. Wayne was charged with turning the ranch into a profitable venture. He became involved with Stan Parson’s Ranching for Profit school and applied many of the principles to the ranch. Labor and feed were the two largest expenses so emphasis was placed on these areas. Relationships with government agencies, including BLM, were improved. He also worked with gold mining companies to do beneficial land exchanges and environmental work. In 1998, he won a Riparian Stewardship award given by the Interior Department. He served on the Nevada Beef Council, five years as chairman.

As President and CEO, Wayne is responsible for day-to-day operations as well as developing a long range strategic plan for the operation. Wayne is the first non-family CEO of the Padlock. Realizing the cattle industry is in a state of change, the strategic plan focuses on risk reduction; overhead cost controls, a reasonable return for ownership and a good quality of life for the stakeholders. Individual animal identification, ranch-wide grazing systems and alliances are examples of new steps that have been taken. Padlock has an alliance with AgriBeef and furnishes Waygu bred calves to their program. Padlock is a member of Country Natural Beef and Wayne is past chairman. NCBA recognized Padlock as the winner of 2012 Beef Quality Assurance Award and this year Montana and Wyoming presented Wayne with the environmental stewardship award for each state. Last August, NCBA named Padlock as a regional winner. Wayne has recently been appointed as a Wyoming director to the Federation of State Beef Councils and is a member of the Wyoming Beef Council.

Wayne and his wife, Judi, recently founded AgWin Group, LLC. They and their associates will be offering ranch business, employee relations and continuing education consulting beginning in 2014. Wayne and Judi have three children and five grandchildren.
